Finger length and personality June 2, 2006

Well it might be last years news , which means I am behind the times but I already know that, but I found this very interesting.

The University of Alberta found that finger length predicts physically aggressive personalities. Dr. Peter Hurd and his student Alison Bailey have shown that men’s index finger length relative to the ring finger can predict physical aggressiveness. Women do not show the same effect. They believe it is due to the amount of testosterone that a foetus is exposed to in the womb. The shorter the index finger relative to the ring finger, the more likely a man will be physically aggressive throughout his life. In their study, this was specific to physical aggressive responses and not verbal ones. This means they hit, not yell!
Hurd said that “finger length can tell you a little bit about where personality comes from, and that's what we are continuing to explore”. Yippee; words like this coming from a research scientist are like a balm for the soul.

Palmists know that the length of the index finger, or Jupiter finger, relative to the ring finger describes our leadership potential, ambition, independence and the desire to influence our surroundings. So perhaps a short index finger means these energies are repressed and therefore they lash out in a physical manner. But before we wound pronounce someone as physically aggressive we would have a good look at the thumb, the mars mounts and lines on the palm.

But the research scientists are are heading in the right direction.

Yours in the stars
